BUY: INTRO TO ARGENTINE FOLKDANCE WITH MARIELA ERMOCIDA AND OSCAR ROSALES
Why do tango dancers move the way they do? Here are two of the most fantastic Argentine folkdancers we know, demonstrating the authentic roots of the tango. A must for serious tangology! The tango's roots are in the rich tradition of Argentine folkdance. Mariela is the sister of tango great Lorena Ermocida (of Tango x 2 and now Osvaldo Zotto's partner). She and Oscar are dancers in the Compan'a Nacional de Baile Folkl-rica Argentina (The Argentine National Folkdance Company). They introduce the concepts of Argentine folkdance and demonstrate Chamame, Triufo, Resbalosa Federal, Zamba Cueca, Zamba, Gato, and Chacarrera. There is a choreographed dance in full costume followed by instruction in a few basic steps for each dance. Oscar also demonstrates the Malambo tap dance of the male dancers and its fantasy versions with lance, knife, and boleadoras (the balls on cords that originally served as lassos). This video, with two superb and charismatic dancers, is a must for serious study of tango. Filmed in 1997 in Buenos Aires. Produced, edited, and translated by Daniel. (approx. 90 mins.)
